Prescribing Guidelines by Age

MEFTAL-SPAS® product range is formulated to provide age-appropriate dosing across the patient lifecycle. While Drops are the preferred delivery system for infants and young children, the brand offers alternate formats for older age groups.

Qualitative and Quantitative Composition

MEFTAL-SPAS®; Drops

Each ml contains:

Dicyclomine Hydrochloride IP - 10 mg

Simethicone IP -40 mg

Dosage Form and Strength

Dosage Form: Oral drops.

Dosage Strength: Dicyclomine hydrochloride 10 mg + Simethicone 40 mg per 5 ml.

Posology and Method of Administration

For oral administration in infants and young children, using the calibrated dropper provided.

  • MEFTAL-SPAS® Drops

    0.5 to 1 ml to be administered three to four times daily or as prescribed by the physician.

Not recommended for infants below six months of age unless specifically advised by a paediatrician. Shake well before use and administer with or without food. Or, as prescribed by the physician.

Contraindications

MEFTAL-SPAS® Drops are contraindicated in the following

  • Known hypersensitivity to dicyclomine or simethicone or to any component of the formulation.
  • Infants below six months of age.
  • Obstructive or inflammatory bowel disease, paralytic ileus, and intestinal atony.
  • Glaucoma.
  • Myasthenia gravis.
  • Urinary retention or obstructive uropathy.
  • Unstable cardiovascular status.
